Who Can Find a Virtuous Woman? For Her Price is Far Above Rubies

“Who can find a virtuous woman? for her price is far above rubies” – Proverbs 31:10.

The book of Proverbs is a book of wisdom, written by the man that the Bible calls the wisest man alive: “And God gave Solomon wisdom and understanding exceeding much, and largeness of heart, even as the sand that [is] on the sea shore. And Solomon’s wisdom excelled the wisdom of all the children of the east country, and all the wisdom of Egypt. For he was wiser than all men …” (1 Kings 4:29-31). Sadly, Solomon did not take his own advice in his old age. The Bible says the Solomon had 700 wives, princesses, and three concubines, and that his wives led him astray (1 Kings 11:3). Solomon’s wives led him into the worship of false gods which eventually led to the kingdom of Israel being taken from him and split into two kingdoms, the Kingdom of Israel and the Kingdom of Judah, under the reign of his son, Rehoboam.

Yet, there is literally nothing more attractive and valuable than a virtuous woman, one whose husband will trust in her. “The heart of her husband doth safely trust in her … ” (Proverbs 31:11). “She will do him good and not evil all the days of her life” (31:12). “A virtuous woman is a crown to her husband: but she that maketh ashamed is as rottenness in his bones” (Proverbs 12:4). There are many such verses in the Bible, including, “Whoso findeth a wife findeth a good thing, and obtaineth favour of the LORD.” A wife is a blessing from God. Scripture is clear about that, especially if she is the proverbial wife.
