Winnie the Pooh

Winnie the Pooh, “Pooh Bear”, created by A.A. Milne first appeared in book form in 1926. E.H. Shephard made Pooh famous with his brilliant and loveable illustrations of Pooh, Tigger, Piglet, and the whole Winne the Pooh crew. Milne had named his character, Winnie the Pooh, after a teddy bear his son, Christopher Robin Milne, owned. His son became, of course, the basis for the character Christopher Robin in the stories. It was not until many years later, in 1966, that Disney, having licensed the characeters, released Winnie the Pooh features.
