And The Holy Spirit Descended As A Dove

From the very beginning of the Bible, the dove has had a particular significance. In Genesis, when Noah and his family finally made it through the forty-day storm, a dove was employed to fly out and seek dry land. When the dove continued to return, it was a signal that the waters had not yet receded. The dove was a special messenger. When, on its last flight, the bird did not return, Noah knew that the dove had found a place to nest. It was time to disembark the ship. God’s promise had been fulfilled.

In the book of Psalms, we are encouraged to fly to God and experience the refuge and protection of his presence. Psalm 55:6 says “Oh, that I had wings like a dove! I would fly away and be at rest.”

In Song of Songs, the beloved is compared to a dove. My “dove” becomes a term of endearment. And in popular culture the dove is widely recognized as a symbol of peace.

But it is in the New Testament that the dove takes on its greatest spiritual significance for the Christian. In the Gospels, the Holy Spirit is described as a dove, descending upon Jesus after he is baptized. As believers we too have the gift of the Holy Spirit and the dove is a precious reminder of that blessing and the fellowship we have with the third member of the Trinity.

Celebrate the gift of the Holy Spirit with the 14k Gold Holy Spirit Dove Pendant (shown right) and the 14k Gold Holy Spirit Dove Cross Pendant (shown above left). “By this we know that we abide in Him, and He in us, because He has given us of His Spirit.”
