Jesus Is Our Boss

October 24, 2018 | By More

Everyone on this earth has a job to do. Whether it is working for someone else, for themselves or for their family, whatever the situation may be, we all have work to do and responsibilities to upkeep each and every day. A job isn’t just something that we do to receive an income in order to pay the bills; it also means having a unique role and purpose that ultimately serves God. For example: being a stay at home mother is a job, caring for your disabled parent is a job, being a pastor in a church is a job and going out soul-winning is a job. Ultimately, our roles on this earth is the very definition of a job, and our boss is Jesus Christ.

Sure, you may work for a certain someone, or a particular business, but overall, your boss is still Jesus. Jesus is our Lord and Savior, our Creator and Redeemer, who looks after us and watches over us too. As such, everything we do in life should be done to glorify God, and share our faith in Him with others too. “And whatsoever ye do in word or deed, do all in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to God and the Father by him” (Colossians 3:17).

I am a single mother, and this is my job. Jesus is both the head of our household (1 Corinthians 11:3), and my boss because I serve and please Him in everything I do, especially as being a mother. The things that I do in my role as a mother each day is to glorify God, and to share my faith in Him with my daughter. Every single task that I do, I must work hard at it and give it my all. There is no reason to slack off, especially not when you are a sole parent to your children. “Train up a child in the way he should go: and when he is old, he will not depart from it” (Proverbs 22:6).

If you are a laborer, a bank teller, a teacher, a carer, a sole business owner, whatever your job title is or your role entails, your boss is ultimately still Jesus Christ, and everything that you do should reflect upon your faith in Christ and to glorify Him. “Let every soul be subject unto the higher powers. For there is no power but of God: the powers that be are ordained of God” (Romans 13:1). This is very important to understand and to believe in because it will also help you do better at your job too. When you clock in to work each day you are working for The Lord, and so you must put in 100 percent in to your job performance. You cannot slack off, or muck around; you aren’t a Christian part-time, you are a Christian full-time and your faith in Christ should remain the same in all areas of your life. You should never hide who you are or who you believe in.

Work isn’t a place to come to to just get your money to pay the bills and that’s all. You need to work hard, and earn that money. You need to show commitment and determination to fulfill your duties to the fullest potential. If you put in 100 percent to your faith such as when you read and study the Bible every day, go to Church every week, and preach the gospel unto others when going soul-winning, but you do not show the same kind of passion for preaching The Word and expressing your faith at work, or do not put in the same kind of effort, then you need to change that! “And whatsoever ye do, do [it] heartily, as to the Lord, and not unto men;” (Colossians 3:23).

All throughout the Bible God tells us to work hard, and to provide for our families. Men especially, are to labor, for we reap what we sow. If you work hard, and give it your all, then there is profit (Proverbs 14:23; Galatians 6:9).

God told the Israelites about how to work and what to do with those who had less (Leviticus 23:22). He also tells us that those who do not work shall not eat (2 Thessalonians 3:10). Therefore, we, as Christians, should work hard as work is integral to our lives. We should be content and cheerful when working at our jobs, and not complain as our boss is Jesus. We must commit ourselves to God, maintain a good work effort, and present ourselves with humility, dignity and grace. Having a good work effort in our jobs can also positively reflect upon us witnessing to others (Matthew 5:16). That is why we should not limit our efforts in the workplace, and save our energy only for studying or attending Church. The workplace is a fantastic opportunity to preach the gospel to others, and let them see your actions and words reflect upon the light of Christ that dwells within you.

God is watching us always and He knows everything that happens with us on this earth. You should never stop working and glorifying God. No matter what you do, do it all for the glory of God. Give it your all at work, for you can do all things through Christ which strengthens you (Philippians 4:13). There’s no excuses.

Stay encouraged.

God Bless.
