Stunning Floral Wedding Bands

March 27, 2009 by Yelena Jenkins · Leave a Comment

floral-wedding-bands-hand-carved-white-gold-bandWith Spring’s warm weather comes one of nature’s most stunning gifts – flowers. The delicate, otherworldly blossoms spring from the barren ground each year symbolizing renewal, hope and beauty in nature. The symbolic connotations of the beautiful flower make it the ideal symbol for a wedding band design. What else is a lifelong union but the beauty of sharing lives, hope for a happy future, and the unspoken daily renewal and fulfillment of your treasured wedding day vows?

Even for those who aren’t big fans of symbolism, flowers simply make beautiful wedding band designs. They’re feminine yet architectural, and are the designs subtle enough that they look abstract from a distance. If you’re not yet convinced on the virtues of floral designs, check out some of our favorite floral wedding bands below, and prepare to fall head over heals:

Floral Vine Design White Gold Wedding Band

The combination of vines and flowers create a textured composition of ethereal swirls that lend this ring a lovely feminine quality. It’s perfect for women who want a ladylike wedding band without gemstones that still has a unique touch,  setting it apart from the plain white gold band.

Two Tone Floral Design Gold Wedding Band

floral-wedding-band-two-tone-rings
For women who love the above design but want an extra visual kick, the two tone floral wedding band is the perfect pick. Yellow and white gold create a beautiful juxtaposition between the ornate floral yellow gold and the clean, simple white gold border.

We also love a similar version of the two tone band that has the white and yellow gold reversed. The yellow gold border has a flattering, warming effect against the skin tone that many women prefer.

Intricate Hand Carved Floral Wedding Band

Finely crafted with exquisite detail, this white gold ring is covered in an elaborate floral design (pictured at top). By eliminating the vines and leafs, the ring focuses solely on floral beauty. The result is a simplified version that still has the kick to set it apart from other wedding bands.floral-wedding-band-hand-carved-ring

Modern Hand Carved Floral Wedding Band

As the name implies, this solid 14K white gold wedding band is carved by hand. Unlike the previous designs, the band has an abstract quality that makes it strikingly modern. Instead of looking frilly, the floral design projects a modern and bold – perfect for women who love a unique look.

Wedding Bands: Modern Simplicity

December 18, 2008 by Yelena Jenkins · Leave a Comment

In an industry that became completely extravagant and over-the-top, more and more couples are calling for a return to simplicity. What started in the 1980s with cupcake dresses, 20-inch bridal bouquets and poofy sleeved fuschia bridesmaid gowns is thankfully becoming subdued. In its place, a more modern wedding industry aesthetic is firmly taking hold. This trend is even evidenced in the most symbolic of wedding icons: wedding bands.

In lieu of flashy engagement rings, many brides are opting to save the money for a down payment and stick with a simple, modern band instead. Other brides are wearing their engagement rings up until the wedding, at which point they are switching the engagement ring with their wedding band instead of stacking the two together. The elimination of the traditional engagement ring has become even more prevalent with the current state of the economy. Money-conscious couples are often cash-strapped or feel guilty splashing out on expensive diamond engagement rings. The option they turn to provides an easy yet impactful way to save thousands of dollars.

Our modern, simple rings are ideal for couples who are looking for high quality, reasonably-priced wedding bands. More than ever, now is the perfect time to buy: with gold and platinum prices at their lowest in years, big savings are guaranteed. If you are just starting your search, make sure to take a peek at the following styles:

The Most Wonderful Time of the Year

December 11, 2008 by Yelena Jenkins · Leave a Comment

A gorgeous rose gold engagement ring will take her breath away.

Ah, the holidays. Christmas, Hanukkah and New Year’s always conjure up images of family, friends, warm fires, eggnog, and… engagements. Yes, you heard right, engagements – and not the type that signify a set meeting, the type that result in a sparkling diamond placed on the left ring finger. With all the other engagements – office parties, family parties, ski trips and holiday shopping – it’s a wonder that people have any time to think about getting engaged during the holidays. Yet, December is by far the most popular month of the year for couples to get engaged. If you are considering popping the question this holiday season, here are some great ideas on how to make it the most wonderful time of her year:

1. The At-Home Sneak Attack

This proposal involves showing up during the holidays unannounced (though previously coordinated with her roommate, relatives or parents – wherever she will be staying) and dropping to one knee in a sweeping romantic gesture to express your love and ask her to marry you.

Why It Works: This proposal has a fantastic element of surprise, so she will love it if she enjoys surprises. Also, the parents or relatives will enjoy being in on the plan with you, and will love that you included them in the engagement.

Potential Drawbacks: Keeping this proposal a secret requires a lot of careful planning and coordination, as well as stealthy accomplices (don’t try this with relatives that can’t keep a secret!).

2. The Faux Holiday Party

Plan a holiday party and invite all of your friends and local family. However, do not tell your girlfriend that it is your party. Instead, pretend that you have to attend an office cocktail party and ask her to accompany you as your date. Make dinner reservations at her favorite nice restaurant beforehand, and either propose during dinner or take her somewhere special and propose just after the meal (a beautiful park or other meaningful place for the two of you is a good choice). Once she says yes, take her to the “office holiday party” and surprise her with a big gathering of all your favorite people to celebrate the happy news with.

Why It Works: It combines both the element of an intimate, romantic proposal with a big celebration of friends and family.

Potential Drawbacks: If the first method required a few stealthy accomplices, this one involves even more people who have to keep your secret.

3. The Holiday Scavenger Hunt

Send your future wife on a trip down memory lane through the city you live in. This works best when presented as a regular gift: wrap up the first clue in a small box tied with a bow, and present it to her as if it’s her holiday present. When she unwraps the first clue, explain that you have created a series of clues that will lead her to her gift.

Enlist the help of one of her friends or a sister who is clued into the real reason behind the scavenger hunt to lead her along her way and help with the clues. Have the friend hand her a new one of your clues once she arrives at the correct location. On the clue, write a romantic reason why you chose that particular place as a stop in her scavenger hunt. Choose places like your favorite coffee spot, first date restaurant, best dessert place, and favorite stores. Wait for her at the final clue location with another box that holds the engagement ring inside, and make her dreams come true. This is one gift she will definitely never forget.

Why It Works: She will adore all of the thought and hard work put into picking locations and writing clues.

Potential Drawbacks: With such an elaborate plan, she might figure out that this is much more than a regular holiday gift before you pull out the ring.

If you’re still looking for that perfect engagement ring, check out our stylish selection of diamond rings. Already have the perfect diamond picked out? Peruse an extensive collection of wedding bands and pick the perfect pair that reflects your love for each other. Comfort Fit Wedding Bands

November 20, 2008 by Afshin Yaghtin · Leave a Comment

What exactly are comfort fit wedding bands?

The inside of a comfort fit band has a slightly rounded shape that forms more comfortably around the ring finger and does not pinch like a regular, flat band.

Comfort fit helps you quickly become accustomed to wearing a ring, even if you’ve never worn one before.

We especially recommend comfort fit bands for men who are not accustomed to wearing rings. Once  you get used to wearing a comfort fit ring, it’s hard to tell that a ring is even on your finger!

Sizing a Comfort Fit Ring

It is important to get measured professionally for a comfort fit band. Often, you can actually go down a 1/4 or 1/2 size when wearing a comfort fit band. So if you are normally a size 10 in a flat band, a size 9 1/2 or 9 3/4 may actually fit better.

However, this is not always the case and the most accurate way to obtain your ring size is to get professionally measured by 1 or more jewelers and by letting them know you will be wearing a comfort fit ring.

When available, try on an actual band, rather than using a ring sizer.

If you cannot for some reason make it to a local jeweler for sizing or want to have a general idea of your ring size before heading to the jewelers, a good place to start is our free ring sizer.

Who Invented Comfort Fit Bands?

While the majority of Apples of Gold Jewelry wedding bands are made in the comfort fit style, it is interesting to note that Benchmark Rings originally invented the comfort fit design, which later became the ultimate wedding ring standard among high quality jewelers and consumers alike.

Apples of Gold is an authorized Benchmark Wedding Band Dealer.
