What is Aquamarine?
Aquamarine is a name that comes from the Latin for “water of the sea” and it is a blue or turquoise gemstone that is actually a variety of beryl mineral deposits, which also includes gemstones like emerald and morganite. Aquamarine it typically found in and around areas that are rich in other beryl deposits. The color of aquamarine can be influenced by heat treatment and other conditioning and comes in a variety of hues ranging from light blue to deep turquoise.

Aquamarine beryl is found most commonly in European countries such as Norway, Austria,  Germany, Sweden, Ireland and Russia. Other countries that have a good natural resource of aquamarine gemstones include Brazil, Colombia,  Madagascar,  Mozambique, South Africa, the United States, and Zambia. Within the USA the states with the highest amount of aquamarine to mine include  California,  Colorado, Connecticut,  Georgia,  Idaho,  Maine, New Hampshire, North Carolina, South Dakota and Utah. With so many points of access to this variety of beryl this is a fairly common gemstone but it can still be difficult to find high quality and highly polished stones for your jewelry pieces, which makes aquamarine jewelry a high commodity and a great social symbol.

Records and Appeal
The largest aquamarine stone was mined from Marambaia, Minas Gerais, Brazil, in 1910 and it tipped the scales at an impressive weight of 110 kg, and record breaking dimensions of 19 in long and 17 in diameter.
