Within the USA the states with the highest amount of aquamarine to mine include California, Colorado, Connecticut, Georgia, Idaho, Maine, New Hampshire, North Carolina, South Dakota and Utah. With so many points of access to this variety of beryl this is a fairly common gemstone but it can still be difficult to find high quality and highly polished stones for your jewelry pieces, which makes aquamarine jewelry a high commodity and a great social symbol.
Records and Appeal
The largest aquamarine stone was mined from Marambaia, Minas Gerais, Brazil, in 1910 and it tipped the scales at an impressive weight of 110 kg, and record breaking dimensions of 19 in long and 17 in diameter. The largest cut aquamarine gem is known as the Dom Pedro aquamarine, which can be seen at the Smithsonian Institution’s National Museum of Natural History.
