Where did we get the ichthus symbol for Christ? The Greek word for fish is ichthys. In the early first century, Christians began making an acrostic from this word: Iesous Christos Theou Yios Soter, i.e. Jesus Christ, Son of God, Savior. It has become a popular icon ever since.
