Which Path Will You Take?

Which Path Will You Take?

sword of the spirit gold cross pendantRecently I lost my great grandmother, as well as a Christian friend of mine too. It was a rough week. I admit, I ended up turning to some old music I once listened to to cheer me up. I didn’t turn to God for comfort and guidance at that point. Eventually though I came to my senses, and I found some scriptures to read to help me. I turned to God to comfort me and lift me up during this time. After this, I found a pamphlet that spoke about how everyone has two choices in life, two paths. One path is a path of righteousness, having and following God in their lives, for those who have faith in Jesus and are saved. This path leads you to heaven, when you put your faith in Jesus Christ. The other path is when people follow the world, and have no faith in Jesus. This path leads you to hell.

All of this, all of what I have gone through and read got me thinking. Everyone has free will. Everyone has more than one choice in their lives. Everyone has the ability to either follow Jesus, or follow the world. One of Satan’s greatest lies is that you have plenty of time to get right with God. The problem I have with this is that we never know what tomorrow will bring for us. As long as we have complete faith and trust in Jesus, then fear or worry should not dictate us, nor should any worldly desire to be apart from God. “Go to now, ye that say, To day or to morrow we will go into such a city, and continue there a year, and buy and sell, and get gain:Whereas ye know not what shall be on the morrow. For what is your life? It is even a vapour, that appeareth for a little time, and then vanisheth away. For that ye ought to say, If the Lord will, we shall live, and do this, or that” (James 4:13-15).

cross and heart diamond pendantWe, as Christians , should only have the desire to follow God and do everything in accordance to His will and not our own. We want to be led in the spirit and not dragged down in the flesh. The major problems that we face today are the desires of the world, the fall of mankind, the ongoing battle of fighting against sin, and yearning to break free from the chains. Sometimes, we can stumble. We go through various different trials and emotions, and we can rebel and not do what God tells us to do. When this happens, our lives are being dictated by our own selfish desires, rather than fully submitting to God and following His lead. “And we know that all things work together for good to them that love God, to them who are the called according to [his] purpose” (Romans 8:28). When we change our mindset though, and overcome these battles by trusting in God alone, and not disobeying Him and His Will for us, then it makes Him happy, and makes us happy too. “Love not the world, neither the things that are in the world. If any man love the world, the love of the Father is not in him. For all that is in the world, the lust of the flesh, and the lust of the eyes, and the pride of life, is not of the Father, but is of the world. And the world passeth away, and the lust thereof: but he that doeth the will of God abideth for ever” (1 John 2:15-17).

Sin causes lots of problems. By trying to do things our own way will only hurt us and others too. It angers God when we become selfish and rebellious. We must remember and acknowledge that Jesus Christ is the only true King (“Which in his times he shall shew, who is the blessed and only Potentate, the King of kings, and Lord of lords;” 1 Timothy 6:15). He is our Creator (“For by him were all things created, that are in heaven, and that are in earth, visible and invisible, whether they be thrones, or dominions, or principalities, or powers: all things were created by him, and for him:” Colossians 1:16). One day, when He takes us home, or when Jesus returns, we will be able to see the true and powerful presence of our King in His Eternal Kingdom (“For so an entrance shall be ministered unto you abundantly into the everlasting kingdom of our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ” 2 Peter 1:11). To me, this is a constant reminder that our faith in God yields us a beautiful and glorious eternal existence beyond the temporary realms of the flesh in this world. We must set ourselves to think about the things above, and not below “Set your affection on things above, not on things on the earth” (Colossians 3:2).

with all thy heart cross ring goldI am so thankful that God sent His one and only son into the world to die for my sins on the cross. He died for the sins of the whole world. He rescued us from the punishment that we deserve. God loved us so much that He punished His own son Jesus instead of us sinners. We can be forgiven for saying no to God. We can be given the free gift of eternal life to those who believe on Him and choose to follow Him, and not the world. We must continue to live with Jesus as our King, our Lord and our Savior. “For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life… For the wages of sin [is] death; but the gift of God [is] eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord… If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us [our] sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness” (John 3:16; Romans 6:23; 1 John 1:9).
