Why We Designed our Men’s 14K Solid Gold Cross 

There are normally two categories of 14k solid gold cross pendants for men in the retail jewelry market: thin, flat crosses that are stamped out of a gold metal sheet and in the shape of a cross and hollow, lightweight crosses.

At Apples of Gold Jewelry, we designed our men’s 14k solid gold cross pendant as a solution to this dilemma. We wanted a quality gold cross that is substantial, thick and masculine enough for men to wear on a daily basis that would withstand the test of time.

We initially had a thicker men’s onyx cross that was made solid and thick for the purpose of housing a black onyx stone. We took this same design and filled where the onyx would be with pure solid gold and created a fully solid men’s gold cross that was about 3mm thick and had the perfect height for men at just under 1 3/4″ tall as its overall height. The cross weighs approximately 8.5 – 9.0 grams, making it a jewelry piece worth its weight in gold, without going overboard and making it so heavy that it becomes too expensive for most.

The result was our best selling men’s cross pendant.

We then took the same design and made a women’s version, which quickly also became our top selling women’s gold cross and became an integral part of our matching set of crosses. Since then, both the men’s and women’s versions of our classic plain gold cross pendants have been our best selling crosses for over a decade!

We now offer this design in 14k, 18k, 22k gold and platinum cross, including an extra-large version and a new, slightly lighterweight version which is schedule to come out later this year, as we respond to market conditions, as gold prices increase throughout the world.
