When Should You Buy Wedding Bands? 

Preparing for your dream wedding requires a lot of strategic planning. When should you buy wedding bands? Here is advice from a professional jeweler.

When Should You Buy Wedding Bands?

We usually recommend ordering your wedding bands two months or more before your wedding date. This gives you plenty of time to have your wedding rings made and shipped (if purchasing online) and also gives you enough time in case you have to re-size your rings, in the case that it does not fit.

At Apples of Gold Jewelry, most of our handmade wedding bands, can be made in shipped in approximately 7-10 business days or less, including our unique designer rings, such as our hammered, Celtic, paisley, floral, Christian and other designs, including our intricate braided wedding bands and other handmade and unique styles.

But we don’t advise waiting until the last minute, in order to avoid post-order issues such as re-sizing when needed, unforeseen shipping delays or circumstances or in the unfortunate event that the ring you purchased was not what you expected.

You want to give yourself at least 4-6 weeks or as much as 2 months to place your order in an ideal situation. Simply put, doing so reduces your stress levels during what can be a hectic time for most brides and grooms planning their wedding.

Should You Wait Longer Before Your Wedding?

While we recommend an average of 4-6 weeks or 2 months before your ceremony to purchase your wedding bands, is it OK to purchase them far ahead of time? What if your wedding is 6 months or 1 year away?

We actually prefer that you purchase well in advance and 3-6 months or even a year for example is more than reasonable. You can get your wedding rings purchase securely out of the way and focus on other aspects of your wedding. Thinking ahead is always a good thing.

But are there any disadvantages to shopping too early?

The only disadvantage would be if your body is changing and your finger size changes. This could apply if you are gaining or losing weight during this time. However, the vast majority of people will not see massive weight differences in just one year. But it is something to consider if you are on a weight loss or weight gain program.

This can make a difference especially in hard-to-size rings, such as titanium wedding bands. While very strong, unique and durable, titanium rings cannot usually be re-sized and need to be re-made, requiring more time.

The only other disadvantage is that your sense of style could change or you could run across a different ring that you would like even more. However, again, keep in mind, you are making a purchase for ideally a lifetime. Therefore, pick a design that transcends cultural trends and select a ring that suits your personal sense of taste and style.

Also consider rings that have meaning to you, such as Cross wedding bands or other themed rings, whose significance to you will not be effected by the passage of time.

Rush Orders

We have shipped wedding bands to customers who purchased their ring 2 weeks before their Big Day and gotten it to them with Overnight shipping as a rush order. Can we do it? Yes. But in an ideal situation, you want to give yourself more time to offset worry and stress.

Most of our plain wedding bands can be shipped in just a matter of a few days, as they are simpler bands. On a rush basis, we can sometimes ship them out in just 1-2 days with Overnight shipping. There really is no specific amount of time that you must wait to purchase your wedding rings. We just advice that you don’t wait until the last minute and give yourself at least a month or two to be safe and stress free!
