3 Reasons Why We Should Pray Over Our Household
I recently moved out into my own place, and it has been a big adjustment going from living with other adults, to then living on my own with my daughter. I have a lot of anxiety that is understandable to have, but it is something that I am working on removing, with help from God. Since being in this new house, I have been praying over it, and every thing, and everyone inside this household, every night before I go to sleep. I believe it is absolutely important to do so, even if you aren’t living alone like I am, and here is why.
Praying over your household helps build your trust and faith in God, by allowing any build up fear or worries to be let go and given to God to handle. For example, I pray about protection over me and my household, both physically and spiritually too, as I am living in a new area that I am unfamiliar with, and am in a home that has had previous occupants here who may have brought and left spiritual things that need to be cast out. All of these things of which I will explain further for you to better understand the importance of doing this.
1. Builds Trust In God
Proverbs 3:5 – “Trust in the LORD with all thine heart; and lean not unto thine own understanding”
Whether you are in a new household and environment such as myself, or you have been in your current situation for a while, but have not considering praying over your household before, either way, doing this helps you build trust in God. By allowing God to hear your prayers about protection and safety over your home, and everyone and everything inside of it, gives you the ability to strengthen your faith in God, and allow Him and His angels to answers your prayer requests. It can be quite daunting if you are living alone and are constantly worried about whether or not something might happen, or someone may get hurt, but when we put all of this in prayer to God, and release these thoughts and emotions, we are no longer living in a state of panic or worry, but rather, a state of mind in which we feel comforted knowing that God has us. It is such a huge relief to be able to give all of this to God in prayer, and to release those negative thoughts and emotions from yourself, which has been clouding your mind. In Romans 12:2, it states that we are to renew our minds. This is a pure example of how to go about that. God will put us in all kinds of different situations as tests to be able to show Him where our faith stands, and whether or not we can trust Him. We can face such difficult trials and hardships, for instance, such as being alone, raising a family by oneself, or struggling with certain other things going on within the household. Use these moments as positive reinforcements and guidance from God to build up that trust in Him. If God is for us, then who can be against us? (Romans 8:31) Why do you have faith in God if you are going to continue to live in fear, to not renew your mind, and to trust no one with your problems? Think about it. If I can do it, as a single mum living alone with my young child, then you definitely can too.
2. Spiritual Protection
Isaiah 54:17 – “No weapon that is formed against thee shall prosper; and every tongue [that] shall rise against thee in judgment thou shalt condemn. This [is] the heritage of the servants of the LORD, and their righteousness [is] of me, saith the LORD”
I cannot say this enough. We are in a spiritual warfare daily. We need to put on the armor of God and protect ourselves from all evil (Ephesians 6). We are children of the light, the light of the world, and the light casts out all darkness (Matthew 5:14-16). As such, praying over our household, especially on a daily basis like I do, will help remove all evil, demonic spirits from your household, and keep you, your family, and your items protected from the most high God. This battle that we face can strike us at any point, and any where, especially in the home, where we reside and feel most comfortable at. It is also where our family and cherished possessions are. That is why it is imperative to pray over your household each day.
3. Losing Fear, Gaining Faith
Isaiah 41:10 – “Fear thou not; for I [am] with thee: be not dismayed; for I [am] thy God: I will strengthen thee; yea, I will help thee; yea, I will uphold thee with the right hand of my righteousness”
When we put all of our trust and faith in God, and give all of our worries, fears and any other negative thoughts or emotions in pray to Him, it allows us to let go of that fear, and to gain faith in God alone. The spirit of fear is not of God (2 Timothy 1:7). It is not uncommon for Christians to have fear, or to have anxiety over particular things that take place in our lives. How we deal with all of this, though, is essential in our walk with God. By allowing the fears and anxiety to dictate our lives, and our minds, we are not following The Word of God, or doing His Will. God wants us to pray to Him and let out all of our worries and concerns for Him to deal with, and for us to have faith that He will answer our prayers. God will never leave us, nor forsake us, and when we go through difficult trials, He is just a prayer away. As such, we need to renew our minds, let the Holy Spirit guide us from within, and get rid of the fear, for it is only causing more harm
than good with our faith in God.
Living alone, for instance, is very scary, especially when you are in an unfamiliar environment. But, that is where our faith in God will be tested and strengthened, through this experience. Furthermore, any other daunting experiences, or challenges that we face, are tests of our faith from God.
This spiritual warfare that is happening on a daily basis, especially within our homes, is one of the many challenges that we face, as Christians, but will also have a very rewarding outcome. Once you completely submit to God, obey Him, allow Him to guide you to do His Will and not your own, and have complete faith and trust in Him, then you will feel at ease throughout this spiritual warfare, when praying and seeking answers, and yearning for continual protection over your household each day too.
Stay in prayer, remain faithful, and give it all to God to handle. Pray over your household daily, put on the armor of God, and let His light cast out all darkness in your lives.
Stay encouraged.
God Bless
