5 Important Priorities As Christians

The importance of prioritizing in our lives is so vital when it comes to marriage, having a family, friendships and especially in our relationship and walk with God. For example, we learn to sacrifice some things, and work on improving other things within ourselves, and our relationships to maintain our marriage and friendships. When it comes to our relationships with God, there are certain things that we need to prioritize and work on within our faith that will help us grow and mature in the faith, and learn to love, obey and trust God completely. Here are 5 important priorities that we must incorporate in our lives and in our journey as born-again Christians.

1. God First

Exodus 20:3-5 – Thou shalt have no other gods before me. Thou shalt not make unto thee any graven image, or any likeness of any thing that is in heaven above, or that is in the earth beneath, or that is in the water under the earth. Thou shalt not bow down thyself to them, nor serve them: for I the Lord thy God am a jealous God, visiting the iniquity of the fathers upon the children unto the third and fourth generation of them that hate me;

First and foremost, it is absolutely imperative that we put God first. We must have all of our trust and faith in God alone, and put Him above anyone else, especially our own selves. God wants us to worship and obey Him, and only Him. His desire is for us to only believe in Him, and to put Him above all else. As such, when we put God first in our lives, then everything else will follow in accordance to His Will. What is a way in which we can show that God comes first? In 1 John 5:3, the Bible reads “For this is the love of God, that we keep his commandments: and his commandments are not grievous”. Obeying the commandments of God allows us to demonstrate our love for God and our desire to put Him first.

2. Seek The Kingdom of God

But seek ye first the kingdom of God, and his righteousness; and all these things shall be added unto you.

Seek the kingdom of God first. Allow everything that we do to be for the glory of God. Focus on things above, and not of this world. Once we put God first, and seek Him and His Kingdom, we can then learn to do His Will in our lives, and set the stage for illustrating our faith in God with others, and how it stands out from anything else. Our thoughts, our feelings, our motives, our words and our actions must all represent our faith in God, for we are His Children, and must have complete faith in Him to guide us to be the person He created us to be.

3. Renew Our Mind

And be not conformed to this world: but be ye transformed by the renewing of your mind, that ye may prove what is that good, and acceptable, and perfect, will of God.

When we are born-again, we are a new creation unto God, and as such, our desires change both internally in the mind and externally through our actions and our words. We yearn to be more like Christ and less like our old selves and less of the world. We thrive on separating ourselves from the influences of the world in the flesh, as we build ourselves up in the spirit. In order to do all of this we must renew our mind! But how does this make sense? How will this allow us to prioritize our faith in God? When we renew our minds to think more like Christ, to feel more like Christ, and to do more like Christ, our focus is on Him and His Word, and our drive is to pick up our cross and follow Him daily. Just like what The Bible says in Romans 12:2, we need to find out and approve of what is good and acceptable by the perfect will of God. We need to study The Word, focus on the things above, and fight the battles of the sinful desires in our minds, in order to overcome any negative actions we may commit in the flesh which can draw us away from God.

4. Change Our Ways

Jeremiah 26:13 – Therefore now amend your ways and your doings, and obey the voice of the LORD your God; and the LORD will repent him of the evil that he hath pronounced against you.

We need to become more like Christ and less like the world. Every day is a new opportunity to grow in the faith and mature as a Christian. Studying The Word gives us guidance and support, as well as a reason to do God’s Will and not our own. God created us all with a unique and important purpose for this world, so it is up to use to follow down that path that He has laid out for us. We need to stem away from what our unsaved selves were once doing in the world, and learn to embrace this new and exciting opportunity to start again once we are born-again. Embrace God’s grace, don’t abuse it.

5. Love As Christ Loves

John 13:34 –  A new commandment I give unto you, That ye love one another; as I have loved you, that ye also love one another.

Lastly, everything we must do is with love; for if we do not have love, we are nothing. When we put God first in our lives, it is because we love Him. When we seek the kingdom of God, it is because we want to live a life worth living. When we renew our minds, it is because we no longer want to follow the world. We love God and His Word and want to live to serve and please Him and only Him. When we change our ways, we are receiving the loving correction and rebukes from God and from other believers in order to obey God and do His Will in our lives.

There are so many different important things that we must do as born-again Christians, especially when it comes to prioritizing certain aspects of our faith and relationship with God. These five examples are crucial to our walk with Christ once we become a new creation. We need to learn to understand and follow The Bible, and to embrace God, as we break free from the chains that kept us binded up in the world. As such, these five important things that we must do and prioritize will help us please God, obey Him and His Word, and to become better Christian; better versions of ourselves.

Stay encouraged.

God Bless
