What It Truly Means To Be Born Again

Being born again is more than just a title towards one’s change of belief when they have faith in Jesus and are saved. Being born again means that an individual has come to the conclusion that God is real, the Bible is true, and Jesus Christ is our Lord and Savior, who died for the sins of the whole world and they have a spiritual rebirth. It is through our faith in Jesus that we receive the free gift of eternal life, and thus the spiritual awakening of the truth of the gospel unfolds in our lives.

When we become born again, we are a new creation unto God (2 Corinthians 5:17). We strive to follow Christ in the spirit, and to deny ourselves, and to stay away from worldly, fleshly desires, that our old selves was once influenced by. It is when sinners come to repentance, and have a change of heart, and change of mind.

I have created an acronym for being born again which can be used to help and encourage fellow Christians, as well as unbelievers too, about what it truly means and how it can teach others the truth of salvation through Jesus Christ.

B – Believe

“And they said, Believe on the Lord Jesus Christ, and thou shalt be saved, and thy house” – Acts 16:31

Salvation is by grace through faith, and not of works (Ephesians 2:8-9). When we believe on The Lord Jesus Christ as our personal savior, who is King of Kings and Lord of Lords (Revelation 19:16), we receive the free gift of salvation. It is about believing in who He is and what He has done for us, on the cross at calvary.

O – Once Saved Always Saved

“And I give unto them eternal life; and they shall never perish, neither shall any man pluck them out of my hand” – John 10:28

Once you believe in Jesus, and receive the free gift of salvation, you are saved. No one can take that away from you. God will not pluck you out of His hand.

R – Repentence

“If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us [our] sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness” – 1 John 1:9

True, sincere repentance is apart of our faith in God, getting saved, and becoming born again.

N – Never Perish

“For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life” – John 3:16

Once you are saved, you receive eternal life, not temporary life. It is eternal; it is everlasting. You will never perish. God will never leave you or forsake you (Deuteronomy 31:8).

A – A New Creation

“Therefore if any man be in Christ, he is a new creature: old things are passed away; behold, all things are become new” – 2 Corinthians 5:17

As I mentioned earlier, when you are saved, you become born-again and are a new creation unto God. You are made anew. When Nicodemius spoke to Jesus in John 3:1-21, he had some questions for Jesus. He had a real need – to have a change of heart. He needed a spiritual transformation. Jesus explained to Nicodemius that unless you become born again, you cannot enter into the kingdom of God. Sinners who come to repentance and believe on The Lord Jesus Christ receive spiritual life; a rebirth in the spirit. A new creation is made, and the old one is passed away.

G – God’s Children

“For ye are all the children of God by faith in Christ Jesus” – Galatians 3:26.

Being saved and born again means that we become children of God. We become apart of God’s family, in His Kingdom. Additionally speaking, Jesus even said in Matthew 18:2-4 that unless we become humble as little children, we cannot enter the kingdom of God. We are grafted in to the family tree so to speak (Romans 11:11-24).

A – All Have Sinned

“For all have sinned, and come short of the glory of God;” – Romans 3:23

Why do we need to be born again? Why is there a need for Repentence? We are all sinners who need a savior. Someone who is able to forgive us, to love us, to understand us, and to carry the punishment that we deserve. Jesus Christ became the perfect sacrifice, the sacrifical lamb. He took away the punishments for the sins of the whole world.

Everyone has sinned, and fallen short of the glory of God. We are all spiritually dead without Christ. We are dead in our sins (Ephesians 2:1). But when we have faith in Jesus, He forgives us of our sins and makes us anew. This spiritual rebirth of becoming born again gives us a fresh start,  a clean slate, because God forgives us of our sins, and remembers them no more (Hebrews 8:12). We no longer want to serve ourselves, or the world; we want to serve and please God and to follow Him daily (Luke 9:23).

I – In Christ Alone

“Jesus saith unto him, I am the way, the truth, and the life: no man cometh unto the Father, but by me” – John 14:6

We are only saved because of what Jesus did for us all on the cross. He died for our sins, for the sins of the whole world, and whoever chooses to believe on Him, shall not perish, but have eternal life (John 3:16). We are defined by what Jesus did, and not what we’ve done. There is nothing we can do to earn the free gift of salvation, because it is exactly that: a free gift to those who believe (Romans 5:18).

N – Nourish

Being born again nourishes our soul. It encourages us to learn, to educate and instruct, and to grow in attainments (1 Timothy 4). It also comforts us to know that God will support us and provide for us as we are now one of His children.

Being born again is an integral part of our faith and walk with Christ. We must be able to have a spiritual rebirth in order to renew our minds, and our hearts too, in order to be focused on the things above, and not of this world. It also allows us to truly be grafted in and connect with our Lord and Savior, as we follow Him and serve Him on earth and in His Kingdom, for eternity. I hope that this little creation of the words BORN AGAIN has encouraged you all!

God Bless.
